After researching and creating a
presentation on the topic of a flipped classroom, I am compelled to say that
this form of teaching is extremely beneficial for the academic success of
students. Implementing the strategy of a flipped classroom requires the lecture
parts of lessons to take place at home or in classroom centers and the
application of the content takes place in class whereas the teacher can offer
guidance or allow the students to assist one another with understanding a topic
or building knowledge on that of their peers. I found this strategy of teaching
to be effective because teachers can spend more time making instructional
decisions because the students would be actively engaged and displaying their
understanding of a lesson. The teacher will be able to formally assess the
students on the topic as well. PlayPosit
is a very cohesive website for the use of teachers to upload videos and other
materials for lessons. I would use PlayPosit for those reasons as well as progress
monitoring during lessons. Depending on the lesson, I would even include links
for more articles, activities, or ideas for the benefit of my students. As
found in the article titled What
is Flipped Learning, the four pillars that sum up the purpose of the flip are
goals for me as a future educator. The pillars of the FLIP are to create a
flexible environment, encourage a positive learning culture, implement intentional
content, and to serve as a professional educator. In my future classroom, I am
most sure that I will use the strategy of a flipped classroom as it will
benefit students, parents, and teachers. Students will have the ability to
review classroom lectures and lessons at their own pace, parents will have the
ability to monitor the progress of their child, and teachers will be able to
assess the progression of students’ learning, their learning style, and their
level of comprehension. I would use this strategy to help me group students
based on their understanding. That way I could serve as a guide to students to
clear any misconceptions or misunderstandings they may have about a topic. I
have attached a video of a teacher who makes understanding the flipped
classroom very clear. (The Flipped Classroom)
